Celestion's Mark Dodd speaks at Renkus-Heinz consultant's breakfast at InfoComm 2009

Celestion's Head of Research, Mark Dodd, accepted an invitation to speak at the prestigious Consultant's Breakfast. This annual event is hosted by professional audio systems manufacturer Renkus-Heinz, who celebrate their 30th Anniversary in 2009.
Held in parallel to theInfoComm 2009 conference and exhibition in Orlando, Florida, the event brought together almost 200 consulting engineers to talk about some of the latest technologies in the professional audio industry and how they will help shape the industry's future.
Accepting a personal invitation from Ralph Heinz to make a keynote presentation, Mark Dodd, who was introduced as ‘head of research for one of the most innovative loudspeaker driver manufacturers in the world,' presented his paper "A New Methodology for the Acoustic Design of Compression Driver Phase-Plugs with Concentric Annular Channels.”
Originally given at the 123rd AES Convention, this paper describes the patented technique that Dodd and his team have developed in order to create a compression driver phase plug that delivers greater modal suppression and reduced air non-linearity. The benefit of this is improved time domain response and much lower distortion (i.e. less ringing) than the existing industry standard.
This forward-thinking technology has formed an intrinsic part of Celestion‘s latest generation of compression drivers, which include products such as the CDX14-3050, CDX20-3000 and CDX1-1720. “Renkus-Heinz as a company is well known for its passion for innovation,” commented Dodd. “I'm honored to have been invited to speak at this event, which is an ideal opportunity for us all to share our experience with a view to opening up new horizons within the pro audio industry.”
