In early October 2005, CF Martin’s development team stopped by the Fishman factory IN Wilmington to discuss new acoustic amplification products for future acoustic/electric Martin guitar models. While in Fishman’s Research & Development lab, the Martin team was impressed by the dynamics of Fishman’s 600 watt Loudbox Pro acoustic amplifier, bringing one back with them for R&D at the Martin factory. “What impressed me the most was the sheer power and clarity that I have not heard from another acoustic amplifier,” said Albert Germick, head of Martin’s Research & Development. “You can really feel it in your chest. Combine it with the Fishman Onboard Aura on a Martin guitar and you have the ultimate live acoustic rig.” The Martin team consisted of Tim Teel, Director of Guitar Design, Ed Golden, Custom Shop Administrator, and Albert Germick.
The two innovators in the acoustic guitar industry have successfully partnered on a variety of custom products culminating in the Fishman/Martin Onboard Aura Acoustic Sound Imaging system in the popular Martin DC Aura and OMC Aura models. Martin and Fishman have enjoyed an OEM business partnership for over 20 years and frequently visit one another to discuss product development and new technologies in acoustic amplification.
