Yamaha rolls Out Absolute Hybrid Maple drum sets

Yamaha pioneered the construction of hybrid acoustic drum shells when it introduced its flagship PHX Series. At Winter NAMM 2014, Yamaha launched Absolute Hybrid Maple drum sets which were also highlighted at Musikmesse Frankfurt 2014 and eventually won a Musikmesse International Press Award (MIPA).
On Absolute Hybrid shells, the design consists of a core ply of wenge a very hard and heavy wood native to Africa, sandwiched between plies of maple, well known for its clear tone. This hybrid design delivers a drum tone that plays rich and clear across the full dynamic range.
Absolute Hybrid Maple drum sets feature a hook lug originally designed for the PHX Series, which brings out the drum’s natural tone by creating a small footprint on the shell. In addition to allowing quick and easy head changes, the lugs provide precision tuning.
Other features in the series include a new piston-drive snare strainer, hinged floor tom leg brackets, a low-mass bass drum bracket and the same style of spurs first introduced on the Live Custom drum set. Yamaha’s staggered diagonal seam and Air-Seal System shell-making process produces strong, consistent shells.
“This is the second launch out of our Xiaoshan Factory and there is more to come”, said Wolfgang Csenteri, Product Manager, Yamaha Drums, Yamaha Music Europe GmbH. “This time our aim was, to combine our PHX driven technology with our heritage coming from the Absolute Series. The result, the new Absolute Hybrid Maple will surely become a new milestone in drum history.”
