A digital audio workstation (DAW) is any device offering to record, playback and edit audio content, usually a personal computer with audio software and hardware audio interfaces. Any desktop or laptop computer can be a DAW. With almost any operating system (Windows, MacOS, Linux) you can transform a recent computer into a more or less powerful Audio Workstation. Depending on the quality and power of the hard- and the software, DAWs can be simple home-recording units or the most powerful heart of a professional recording or post production studio.
Since most modern keyboard instruments also are computer based, they often provide recording facilities as well. |
