MADI - Multichannel Audio Digital Interface

The Multichannel Audio Digital Interface MADI is a standard introduced bei the AES. Originally specified as a 56-channel link to connect large digital mixing consoles to digital multitrack-recording devices, the latest specification also defines a 64-channel capacity and support for 96kHz high grade sampling rates.
Unlike other digital audio standards like AES/EBU. ADAT, S/PIF or TDIF, MADI not only supports a larger number of audio channels but also the use of optical fibre connections which allow for transmission distances of up to 3000 meters. In 2010 most digital consoles for live applications offer MADI options.
