Allen & Heath continue to build on their ML series dual function foh/monitor live consoles, launched at Musikmesse Frankfurt 2000 with the ML5000, which in 2001 was joined by the new ML4000. First seen by the public at PLASA 2000, the new desk neatly fits in the A&H range between the GL4000 and the new console's larger sibling.
ML4000 is a VCA equipped 12 aux, 8 audio group mixer, with 8 mute groups, 4-way matrix, with enhanced LCR and IEM facilities. Taking design cues from the ML5000, the console brings the same access to sound and build quality, advanced features such as VCA groups and LCRplus panning system in a compact and easy-to-use format.
Developments in the console's design have resulted in an improved mic pre amp, and an ultra solid internal grounding scheme ensures the very best performance.  The console also boasts an intelligent P/AFL system that gives the operator much more efficient PFL and stereo in-place AFL monitoring.  In the master section, the engineer's toolbox provides additional functions including intercom, oscillator and pink noise generator, assignable talkback and headphones, local and wedge monitor feeds.
Following the ML5000, ML4000 has a flat fader bay and will be available in formats between 32 and 48 channels, all plus 2 dual stereo channels. Also available will be a 24 channel sidecar, bringing the possible total number of channels to 96 when using two sidecars. The ML4000 is designed to be a contender for PA hire companies and space-limited fixed installations.
