beyerdynamic launches MCE 55 Helix with unique mounting

At prolight+sound show 2009 in Frankfurt, Germany, beyerdynamic launched its miniature condenser microphone MCE 55 Helix with innovative mounting for instruments. Top-class sound quality and ingenious design combine to an exceedingly attractive in-a-box solution. The brand new mounting offers new possibilities of miking various acoustic instruments while keeping the handling easy.
Developed by German audio specialist beyerdynamic, the Helix system (patent pending) is surprisingly simple: The secret is a rubber-coated coil-spring which can be assembled to numerous instruments in many different ways. The mounting onto the rib of a violin is as simple as the mounting into the sound hole of a dulcimer or at flutes and on many other instruments. Especially for instruments which are usually difficult to pick up, this fixture offers a functional and acoustically convincing concept. By mounting directly onto the instrument or even at the hand of the player, the musician can move freely on the stage.
For many wind and stringed instruments the Helix-System offers a convincing and extraordinary possibility of direct miking. By intuitive handling, the mounting can be fixed nearly everywhere. A soft finish prevents sensitive wooden surfaces from scratches.
