For its 2012 product offering, Canadian cymbal manufacturerer Sabian decided to let drummers choose which cymbal models should be made. With Players’ Choice, Sabian provided a forum that allowed drummers from around the world to choose its product offering for 2012. It’s the first ever instrument manufacturer to do so. In addition, Sabian brought together a group of its top endorsers to play the new cymbals so that its customers can choose.
Innovative Vault artisans from Sabian have been asked to develop a list of 12 exciting new cymbal models – Rides, Crashes, Hats, Effects and more. The cymbals were shipped to a studio in California, where a group of top Sabian endorsers – including Mike Portnoy, Dave Weckl, Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio, Dave Elitch and Stefanie Eulinberg – were filmed playing the cymbals in all styles and genres. Viewers were able to watch video online and vote to eliminate one cymbal each week. The top 4 cymbals were announced as Sabians new product offering at the Winter NAMM show 2012: The winners are HHX Zen China, AAX Aero Crash, HHX Click Hats, and AAX Stadium Ride.
