Smallest speaker system in the Genelec family

At prolight+sound show 2008 in Frankfurt, Genelec introduced the 6010 - the smallest speaker system in the Genelec family. The 6010A is a versatile and compact two-way active loudspeaker system that has been designed for computer sound systems, workstations and other close proximity listening applications. It can even be plugged directly into personal music players for enhanced acoustic enjoyment. Its small size, amazing sound quality and rugged construction make the 6010A an ideal portable sound system for the professional user It is suitable for professionals working in changing locations.
The self-powered 6010A contains drivers, power amplifiers, active crossover filters and protection circuitry. Taking full advantage of the innovations and the unconventional design features created by Genelec's R&D team, the 6010A excels in applications where space is an issue. The all-aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) and advanced Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) technologies are matched with advanced amplifier and electronics circuitry and the latest drivers.
Bass response extends down to 73 Hz (-3 dB) while distortion is exceptionally low due to a new rear reflex port design. The system's directivity characteristics and accurate imaging together with its compact size and flexible mounting options make the 6010A a suitable loudspeaker for a wide range of applications. The integrated design allows the amplifiers and the drivers to be calibrated as a single unit in the factory. This eliminates the effects of component tolerances and ensures consistent quality.
An RCA line level input connector provides easy connection to a preamplifier, computer sound card or a portable music player. The active crossover controls 'Desktop Control' and 'Bass Tilt' allow the 6010A to be exactly matched to any application. The bass and treble amplifiers each produce 12 watts of output power. The low distortion amplifiers are capable of driving a stereo pair to peak output sound pressure levels in excess of 102 dB at 1 m. A combination of five 6010A's and the matching Genelec 5040A subwoofer can create a dynamic and detailed sound-stage like no other loudspeaker system of this size category.
Dimensions are only H 181mm and 14mm more with Iso-Pod stand, W121mm, D114mm.
Genelec 5040A with 6010A
To complement the 6010A active loudspeaker system, Genelec also launched the 5040A subwoofer to match up to five Genelec 6010A loudspeakers or a pair of the slightly bigger 6020A s. Measuring just 251mm high with a diameter of 305mm, the 5040A extends the system's bass response from 73Hz down to 35 Hz. The playback level for the whole system is conveniently controlled by the remote volume control provided with the 5040A subwoofer.
The 5040A features a magnetically shielded downward firing 61/ 2? bass driver attached to a die-cast aluminium base plate. The base plate also serves as the chassis for the 40-Watt amplifier and 5.1-channel crossover filter circuitry. The 5040A packs a respectable punch of 96 dB maximum SPL. The built-in crossover unit features six RCA input connectors for five main channels and LFE channel and five RCA output connectors for the 6010A loudspeakers. The main channels have a fixed high pass filter to work with Genelec 6010A loudspeakers. The LFE channel can reproduce signals up to 120 Hz. In addition to the RCA connectors, a 3.5 mm stereo jack input connector is provided for convenient connection to portable audio players or computers.
Adjustable input sensitivity in combination with adjustable crossover phase allows a seamless integration between the subwoofer and the main loudspeakers. Bass roll-off rate and input sensitivity can also be adjusted to suit different acoustical environments and subwoofer positioning.
