Selmer (Paris) Reference 36The introduction of the Reference series tenor saxophones is the resurrection of the old great sax secrets. The vintage look and sound comes back as the Reference 36 and the Reference 54.  Selmer (Paris) has introduced two new professional tenor saxophones that integrate the legendary acoustic characteristics with innovative modern technology. The "Reference" for the two new models are the mythical-but-retired Mark VI (circa 1954), and the famous-but-discontinued Balanced Action (circa 1936).

Selmer (Paris) Reference 54Reference 54 Tenor Saxophone, acoustically based on the Selmer (Paris) Mark VI, delivers a rich, centered sound with excellent intonation. Using a hammering process, the neck, body, bow and bell are created from a special brass alloy with a higher copper content, which softens the metal for a richer, warmer sound. Use of kid leather pads with plastic tone boosters projects the sound and adds flexibility.  The Reference 54 includes the traditional pearl key for front F, while the compact design makes the keys feel closer to the body of the instrument. With a brushed finish and dull lacquer on both the body and the keys, the Reference 54 has a vintage appeal.

The Reference 36 Tenor Saxophone is a recreation of the famous Selmer (Paris) Balanced Action, with a shiny rose gold colored lacquer on the body and the keys. Featuring a wider bore diameter at the bow-to-bell junction, the Reference 36 possesses open, flexible and rich playing qualities.  The neck, body, bow and bell are also produced from a special brass alloy with a higher copper content for a richer, warmer sound. Kid leather pads with plastic tone boosters contribute to sound projection and playing flexibility.  The compact design makes the keys feel closer to the body of the instrument. The Reference 36 also includes the traditional pearl key for front F.
