Eminence speakers compliant to WEEE and RoHS

Eminence Speaker LLC announced that all Eminence Loudspeaker products manufactured after December 31, 2005 will be RoHS/WEEE compliant. Eminence President, Rob Gault states, “We put a top priority on this project and worked diligently throughout 2005. We wanted to demonstrate that we are environmentally conscious and that we recognized the concerns of the EU. We also realized that for our customers to be compliant by the July 1, 2006 European Union deadline, we had to obtain compliance well in advance.”
In 2003, the European Union published two directives relating to the use and disposal of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. The directives make all equipment manufacturers responsible for the recycling of these products (WEEE). Furthermore, manufacturers must find substitutes for the use of heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and Hexavalent chromium, as well as some flame retardants (RoHS). Similar requirements will soon be implemented in China and later in California.
“The Eminence team has done an excellent job of evaluating over 14,000 components and working with our suppliers to document the compliance of each one of them.” continues Gault. “We are pleased that we can now supply all our customers with RoHS/WEEE compliant Eminence loudspeakers.”
