A Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is a semiconductor device which can be programmed by the designer after manufacturing. Configured by hardware description language (HDL), FPGAs contain logic blocks which are connected and working together using a structure of reconfigurable interconnects. In many high performance FPGAs, these logic blocks also have access to on-chip memory or even embedded microprocessors.
For example, FPGAs are used in digital audio and lighting consoles and offer the possibility to update functionality after shipping. |
