Sennheiser launches MK 8 double-diaphragm condenser microphone

Sennheiser chooses Prolight + Sound 2014, Frankfurt, Hall 8 A70, to launch the MK 8 double-diaphragm condenser microphone. The much anticipated sister model to the MK 4, this professional recording microphone features five switchable polar patterns (omni-directional, wide cardioid, cardioid, super-cardioid, figure-of-eight) to adapt to any recording situation. Its 1"-diaphragms are precisely spattered with 24-carat gold. The elastically mounted capsule attenuates structure-borne noise. The MK 8 features a three-position switchable low-cut/roll-off filter to eliminate low-frequency noise or reduce the proximity effect, respectively. The sturdy microphone is also fitted with a three-position pad switch to handle excessively loud audio sources and adapt the signal to subsequent recording equipment. The MK 8 will be available from late summer. Bands chosen to perform on Sennheiser's evolution stage at pl+s will take an MK 4 home. Read more below.
Sennheiser will also showcase its wireless microphone and monitoring systems, from the popular evolution wireless series – including the 1.8 GHz models – to the benchmark Digital 9000 system. The LSP 500 PRO will be the PA system of choice for the Sennheiser evolution stage. Another focus will be on audio for video, showing Sennheiser equipment – both wired and wireless – for optimum camera sound. Recording engineers not only can try the MK 4 and MK 8 large-diaphragm condenser microphones but also check Sennheiser’s extensive range of monitoring headphones.
The Sennheiser Sound Room is the place to go for singer/songwriters who want to record some of their material with the help of a professional musician and engineer and take the recorded tracks home on a USB stick. A guitar, cajon and a saxophone are available. The Sound Room also provides an opportunity to become one of the first users of the brand-new MK 8 recording microphone. For those interested in turntablism, a dedicated DJ Corner will offer sessions with a pro DJ – and Sennheiser’s new range of DJ and mixing headphones.
Sennheiser's evolution stage welcomes bands to perform live. Instruments available on site include a set of different vocal microphones, an electric and an acoustic guitar, electric bass, saxophone, percussion kit (cajon, congas and bongos) and a ‘world’ kit (cajon with pedal, snare and hihat). To qualify for a performance, musicians simply go to the Sennheiser stand in Hall 8 A70 and play their tunes in the Sound Room. There will be four band slots per day, more on the Saturday. The reward for every performing band: they will take an MK 4 recording microphone with them.
In daily sessions, a professional turntablist will show aspiring DJs how to scratch and beat juggle. Participants will listen via Sennheiser’s new range of DJ headphones – the HD8 DJ, HD7 DJ and HD6 MIX – and will be invited to try some tricks of the trade themselves.
