At ISE 2013, Tannoy unveiled innovations in their QFlex range such as its new top-of-the line digital beam steering loudspeaker array, the QFlex 64. ISE attendees could find out about all of the latest QFlex features, system accessories and options at a dedicated QFlex info point. Also on show were the new EN 54 compliant variants of Tannoy's CVS in-ceiling and DVS wall-mount loudspeakers. EN 54 is the European Standard for voice alarm and fire alarm system applications, and this new development sees Tannoy responding to an increasing need in an evolving marketplace. As ever, Tannoy displayed their extensive range of commercial install loudspeaker products including CMS and CVS Series in-ceiling systems, the VLS Series passive column line (launched to at ISE 2012) and the OCV Series pendant loudspeaker range.
 Extending the performance capabilities of the QFlex range, QFlex 64 complements the six existing models in this product line, with QFlex 48 previously being the largest column available. Tannoy’s QFlex is a range of digitally steerable, self-powered column array loudspeakers aimed at the high performance installation market. Purpose-designed for applications with problematic acoustics, QFlex technology gives the system designer a unique set of tools for controlling sound and achieving good intelligibility in large, acoustically challenging, highly reverberant spaces – typically involving expanses of reflective surfaces such as glass, metal, concrete or stone.
By creating an asymmetrical pattern, QFlex can produce equivalent SPL results in both the near and far field. Precise full-range beam control, effective to frequencies beyond 12 kHz, allows the system designer to steer the QFlex beam away from surfaces that cause reflections.
Now the largest model in the range, the QFlex 64 features 64 individual drivers each with its own amplification channel and DSP, in a 5.5 metre high column enclosure. This new model offers greater low frequency directivity control (down to 110 Hz), increased effective range and throw, and greatly improved headroom and SPL.
Typical applications for the QFlex 64 are large public concourses, major transport hubs (such as long railway station platforms) and other long-throw situations, where great intelligibility and LF control over distances are of paramount concern.
ISE 2013 also saw the appearance of a host of brand new product releases from Tannoy's Residential division, designed for high-end home hi-fi and custom install. Products on show included the new Precision range, Definition DC10A, Arena Highline 500, IW Series in-wall loudspeakers, and the TS2 subwoofers, as well as a special edition concept finish of the company's flagship Kingdom Royal ultra-high-end hi-fi loudspeaker. |
