Eminence introduces D-fend SA300 stand-alone speaker protection

At Prolight + Sound 2013 in Frankfurt Eminence Speaker LLC introduced D-fend SA300, a fully programmable stand-alone unit designed to protect passive loudspeakers from excessive power conditions. Eminence launched D-fend to the Professional Audio and Musical Instrument markets in 2011. Now the patent-pending technology which allows maximum driver performance while ensuring damage-free operation is available in a stand-alone unit for a broader range of applications employing passive speakers. Visitors to InfoComm 2013 in Orlando, Florida, will see D-fend SA300 at booth #1171.
Eminence D-fend loudspeaker protectionConnecting with properly wired Speakon cables D-fend SA300 is simply placed between the power amplifier and the speakers. Allowing for peak voltage and current ratings of 300 volts and 25 amps, the maximum power ratings are impedance related, for example 4000 Watt at 8 Ohms load, 1250 Watts at 2 Ohms or 2000 Watts at Ohms. D-fend promises no more worries about blown speakers, HF drivers, crossovers or even fire caused by excessive heat. The user simply sets the thresholds and D-fend monitors and limits the amount of input power it passes through to the loudspeaker. D-fend offers USB connectivity and can be programmed from a computer.
Operating from a standard speaker-level signal, the D-fend SA300 requires no auxiliary power unless being used in low-power applications. D-fend loudspeaker protection is ideal for system installers, PA gear rental companies, OEM manufacturers, and any end-users who own passive loudspeakers.
“The D-fend SA300 is a truly unique and versatile product”, says Josh Martin, Technology Sales Manager at Eminence. “The on-board microprocessor allows you to customize attack, release, and threshold settings in order to maximize loudspeaker performance while keeping it safe; an achievement unseen within the audio industry. Whether you’re an installer or a rental company, you can have peace of mind someone isn’t accidentally destroying your investment and reputation.”
